Meet the Chef
Born in Massachusetts and raised in Southern California, Chef Bob Henle first learned to love cooking while working in high-end restaurant kitchens in his high school years. Then, while embarking on a 24-year military career in the US Air Force, Chef Bob spent 15 years based in Spain where his love of cooking became a passion and he gained valuable experience. After retiring from the Air Force, Bob and his wife, Maria, moved to St Augustine where he enrolled in culinary school, and became a certified chef.
Chef Bob has won a national 'Taste of Spain' cooking award and several local prizes including best Tapas at the 2010 St. Augustine First Thanksgiving Cooking Contest and first-place in two categories at the St. Augustine Datil Pepper Cooking Contest.
Bob has been the chef at The Reef Restaurant for almost 10 years, starting as souse chef and moving into the Chef position 6 years ago. His passion, creativity and consistency have been an integral part of the success of The Reef Restaurant’s popularity as St. Augustine’s premier oceanfront dining establishment.
